Module 2. Podiatry and Biomechanics for MNTsdiscusses the structure of the foot and how the body is affected by poor biomechanics and skeletal disorders of the foot. Also, the individual disorders are discussed and how they are treated.Biomechanics is the study of the mechanics of a living body, especially of the forces exerted by muscles and gravity on the skeletal structure. This course focuses on the mechanics of the foot. Every Medical Nail Technician needs to know and understand this information in order to work positively with patients and the physician.
Module 3. Dermatology, Diseases and Disorders for MNTs contains these topics as they are relevant to the foot. The difference between skin of the rest of the body and the skin of the foot is discussed to provide a full understanding by the Medical Nail Technician. Definitions, descriptions including photographs, and treatment of various disease and disorders of the ten most treated conditions in the podiatry office are included as well as precautions for working with these clients. How and why these conditions occur is discussed, also.
MNT Module Four contains instruction on the performance of many of the most important skills the Medical Nail Technician will perform in the medical office. The foot exam is essential before performing any of the health of the patient. The sections on Debridement and Curettage are basic non-invasive services the MNT will perform on fungal feet and are the MNT may be performing often. Massage is covered because it is different in at-risk patients than for patients with normal health, and the knowledge of building a new toe nail for patients is very important for patients, esthetically. This module is a PowerPoint with Study Questions imbedded to allow the student to prepare for the exam. No voice will be heard during the course.
MNT Module 5 centers around skills that are important to working in a medical office. It contains information on radiation and on the techniques of taking x-rays safely. It also describes the processing/development process of films and how this can influence their quality. Coding, a process important to applying for insurance reimbursement is introduced, providing the basics so the technician will be prepared to more easily learn the process of billing in an office. The skill of strapping is also described, a skill that is important to performing as an assistant to a podiatrist and can be learned easily and performed by an assisting MNT.

Physicians are not accustomed to having a pedicurist available for their patients and also not accustomed to marketing. It is discussed extensively and template examples are available for the practice to use in presenting the new service to their patients and to the world.

This module describes wounds and discusses the types of wounds, their causes, the phases of healing, and the provides photos. Each phase of healing is detailed to support the professional's recognition during evaluations. Abnormal healing is discussed, scarring, and the causes and the factors of successful healing are detailed. Ulcers are high incidence to diabetics so must be discussed as well as their causes and treatment. The protocol for Assessment of wounds is an important knowledge set and is taught for use by the professional.
